Ian Wright was talking on BBC Radio 5 Live: When queried about the future of Marcus Rashford. The former England Striker has said that Rashford has some big and tough decisions to make to secure his future with England and Manchester United.
The 20-Year-Old is very much a part of Gareth Southgate’s plans but his chances of starting for the “Three Lions” remains very slim. Ian Wright, believes that Rashford has more potential to play in central role and Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is preventing it from being unlocked by playing Rashford on the wings. Wright, also highlighted the player’s desire to play in a more central role and stressed that the player should start weighing up his options.
“When Rashford burst onto the screen we saw the flashes of a striker who can get in spaces and exploit it but at United he plays in left or right whenever they play him. Rashford is playing everywhere apart from learning his trade. He had pace, skill and finishing ability but now he is playing at positions that takes the edge from him. Next 18 months is very crucial for Rashford. Either the player should move elsewhere to play in a central role and prove his point by scoring from left, right and center in every competition he plays for or stay united and continue his current role” said Ian Wright.
Wright also insisted that England team could benefit Rashford as the head coach Gareth Southgate having no fallback option to Harry Kane. This season didn’t start well for Rashford as he only one appearance from bench against Burnley in which he was shown a straight red card.
