Real Madrid continues to seek a victory and they lost to Levante 2-1 in Santiago Bernabeu. Roger Martí converted a 12th-minute penalty to give Levante a 2-0 lead. Real Madrid pulled one back through Marcelo but it wasn’t good enough.

The result will see Real Madrid going into the El Clasico with three-point deficient off league leaders.  Things were not going well for Los Blancos ever since Cristiano Ronaldo left them for Juventus. Though, Bale and Benzema showed sparks during the campaign beginning; it was not good enough for Real Madrid.

Real Madrid’s poor form looked like a major boost for Levante who played fearlessly and literally toyed Los Blancos around right from the kickoff.  Real Madrid’s defensive woes continued as both goals of Levante was from defensive errors. Varane was the culprit in both occasions as he was sloppy which resulted in a goal from Jose Luis Morales. The French defender was adjudged for handling the ball inside the box which was eventually resulted in a penalty.

Real Madrid too had their fair chances but Levante goal-keeper Oier was too good to deny efforts from Lucas Vazquez and Sergio Ramos. Julen Lopetegui looked to shake things up by introducing Gareth Bale after the half-time. Madrid shifted their focus on controlling the game in the second half, as Karim Benzema came off the bench to see his effort saved by Oier in the 62nd minute. The Levante goalkeeper also denied Gareth Bale’s effort from free-kick.

Real Madrid’s goal came from Marcelo in the 72nd minute as the Brazillian converted the slick pass from Karim Benzema. Real Madrid really pushed hard to find an equalizer but Marcelo’s shot met the crossbar in the 76th minute. Mariano’s effort was ruled off-side in the 88th minute while Levante held onto their nerve to register a famous win at Santiago Bernabeu.
